Many consumers are confused about choosing flooring for their dream home. Whether to choose vitrified tiles or to choose wooden flooring. Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages. In this post we will see advantages and disadvantages for both.
What is Vitrified tile ?
Vitrified tile is a ceramic tile produced using vitrification. Such tiles have very low porosity (ability to absorb fluids). This way they are stain-resistant and strong. This way they are alternative to marble and granite flooring which has even higher porosity.
There are various types of Vitrified tiles available in market. Following are few.
Double-charged vitrified tiles : These vitrified tiles are printed with double layer of pigment, which is 3-4 mm thicker than other vitrified tiles. This results in long-wearing tiles surfaces.
Glazed vitrified tiles : Layer of glaze is added to vitrified tiles body. It permits various creative textures and finishes for vitrified tiles like natural wood finish, natural rustic stone finish etc.
SST vitrified tiles: These are Soluble Salt Tiles. This is cheapest and oldest technique of creating design on vitrified tiles body using liquid color screen printing. It is not as long-wearing as other types.
Full body vitrified tiles: These tiles has the pigment in entire body. Which means scratches and wears will be hardly noticeable.
Qualities of vitrified tiles :
- Extremely hard and non-wearing
- Stain resistant / Chemical-resistant
- Fire Proof
- Wide range of aesthetic designs and finishes
- Pre-polished and easy installation
What is Wooden Flooring ?
Wooden flooring is manufactured from timber. It is used for structural purpose or aesthetics purpose. It provides exquisite wooden finish to floors. Wooden flooring is oldest way of covering floor which is in use since centuries.
There are mainly two types of Wooden flooring .
Solid hardwood flooring :
Solid hardwood are manufactured from planks milled from a single piece of timber. Originally they were used for structural purposes. They can be sanded and finished more times compared to engineered wooden flooring. It also has thicker wear surfaces.
Engineered wooden flooring:
Engineered wooden flooring consists of two or more layers of wooden in form of planks. Engineered wooden flooring is most used flooring type in the world. It is installed using glue instead of nailing which is used for Solid wood flooring.
Wooden flooring vs Vitrified flooring
|Vitrified Tiles||Wooden Flooring|
|Pre-polished and easy installation||relatively complex installation procedure|
|Relatively harder and long-wearing||Relatively fragile|
|Virtually Maintenance Free||Relatively higher maintenance|
|Wide range of design and finishes||Limited wood textures and finishes|
Looking at how vitrified tiles technology have evolved, vitrified tiles is fast becoming obvious choice for flooring these days. Digital printing technology provide natural looking textures and finishes which matches natural marble or wooden finishes in term of aesthetic qualities. In terms of other qualities vitrified tiles clearly has edge of any other type of flooring.
